The Alvis Round Table event was held at the Kolme Seppää restaurant during the Kongressi exhibition on 7.4.2011. Eleven guests from different companies and businesses sectors were in attendance.
Alvis’ CEO Sami Pirkkanen kicked off the discussion with the question “Who defines reporting trends, and what direction is reporting usage taking.” Sami’s energy was infectious and the Round Table event took straight off.
Nearly everyone agreed that getting information to executives and managers regardless of time and place is going to gain importance in the near future. People travel a lot, and they need to keep up-to-date: one glance should be enough to see the overall state of affairs, but it must also be possible to dig deeper when necessary. This issue has been addressed at InfoManager by harnessing the InfoManager Messenger product with the new Alvis SMS service, which can deliver reports directly to mobile phones. This service was demonstrated on site.
Standardizing reports was deliberated next. It was seen that organizations should take care to prevent the random proliferation of different kinds of report, and should pay attention only to well-defined key indicators.
Forecasting is playing a more important role in reporting. Historical information and trend analyses are becoming recognized “nice to know” items. Real-time tracking basically compares where you are to where you should be. You can use this knowledge to adjust your operations and often see the effect of your actions the very next day. This agility helps you carry-out your plans safely, as InfoManager alerts you to unexpected developments as soon as they occur.
InfoManager facilitates internal information sharing. “Vital statistics” can be displayed in a continuous presentation on a screen in a central area, allowing all employees to acquaint themselves with the dynamics of the organization and the current status. Another way is to send status reports direct via email. Either way, internal reporting is an important way of motivating staff at all levels.
These days InfoManager is routinely used as a multi-purpose tool for reporting, planning, budgeting and disseminating information. Our customers are steering their businesses more efficiently towards more growth, profitability and competitive advantage. To us this means real partnership!
After the Round Table event the most famous football referee in the world Pierluigi Colina gave the audience food for thought on preparing for the future and predicting it. The football examples seemed to illustrate many familiar features of business life. Unfortunately we can’t have an impartial referee in business, because we are all players. Luckily on the same side in this case!
